Wishing You All the Best with Your Barefoot Sucess ~ Alicia Mitchell
What is Natural Hoof Care?
"Natural Hoof Care is a strictly non invasive form of trimming the hooves in a manner which simulates the wear patterns of the free roaming horse. It's as simple as that! In the wild horses tend to cover an average of 15 -20 miles a day which gives natural hoof wear. In domestication this very rairly happens. Therefore the excess growth needs to be delt with. I believe that it's important to address over grown hooves in small stages rather than drastic sudden change as this is how the hooves would recover in the wild.
In short natural hooves are the result of a natural environment. In order to get the best results from going barefoot ideally you need the whole system. Having part of a natural system is like only having part of the picture. This is good however for us trimmers because we come along and make up the difference. The choice however is yours! Trim or terrain.

Our Model ~ The Mustang Horse

By simulating the wear pattern of some of the toughest hooves in the world (those of the mustangs of the Great Basin in the USA) the hoof recieves the signal that they need to toughen up to deal with the demands of a tougher environment. The hooves in turn grow to cope with this simulated "environment".
