The Bigger Picture

Our relationship with the horse is slowly changing.
This is the bigger picture.
Since the domestication of the horse some 6 thousand years ago the human race has harnessed the horses strength and good nature for our needs.

On the back of the horse we have built many cities, gone to war, cultivated the land, travelled across continents and revolutionised the face of the world.

Prior to our relationship with horses we were on foot.

In the western world we now have engines, we have different ways, if we choose of changing the world.

We no longer need the horse as a beast of burden.

In many countries around the world horse ownership is widely accepted as a leisure pursuit, for recreation and sport. We can begin to loosen our grip.

By the simple act of removing a horses shoes we release them even further and open up the potential to understand them more as a species in their own right.

If you choose to see the even bigger picture then you may notice that horses haven't needed either, horse shoes, stabling, rugs etc for millions of years.
You may also notice that they don't by choice trot around in circles or jump huge obstacles when there is an easier route, and yet, they do seek our company.........

We have come a long way, but there is still a long way to go. I see this time as a moment in evolution, not of the horse but of the human.

The horses are already there waiting patiently for us to open our eyes and see them for what they are.
