Hoof Boots

Why Boot?

Hoof boots allow proper hoof flexion whilst protecting the sole from stones and the entire hoof from excess wear. Hoof boot therefore are an essential tool for horses who still require hoof protection.
During the first year or so having de-shod your horse the rate at which the hoof grows and the quality of material produced can be substandard and can wear down quicker than is desired. This is where hoof boots play a very important role. They allow the shoes to some off and for the horse in transition to remain comfortable and continue with work whilst not interfering with the hoof mechanism or recovery.

There are many types of Hoof Boots available.

Each boot has a particular size or shape of hoof they fit best.
The boot you choose to use should be firstly a snug fit to reduce rubbing and movement whilst on the horse, and secondly easy for you to use. If you have small hands or arthritis for example, and old mac will be easier to use than an easy boot bare.

If a boot is easy to use the chances are they are likely to be used more than something which is frustrating even thought the horse may need it.
It should be noted that all boots have their good and bad points so it is worth finding out about them and hearing other people's experiences and opinions.
