Bonding through Join-Up

From my experience the bond that is created through Join-Up is both deep and profound and when done sensitively can over come major obsticals for the horse learning to understand his environment and the people within it.

Horses and humans are fundamentally different animals. Humans are hunter gatherers and horses are flight / prey animals. This means we have different rules for behaviour and see the world in a different way.

Learning how your equine friend sees the world and what he needs to feel safe can have a hugly benefficial effect on your relationship together.

Practices such as Join-Up are a conversation in trust. For trust to stick it must be met with a promise. In my view this is not something that should be taken lightly, and is therefore not a method appropriate for horses whos lives may change suddenly by being sold.

These sessions are not about horse training or behavioural change. They are simply about understanding eachother, getting on the same page and improving your bond.

Traumatised / Rescued Horses.
Re-gaining the trust of a traumatised horse is a major achievement and is something that takes time, effort and consistancy. For this reason this service is only available to private horse owners that are comitted to keeping their horse for life.

Relevant Dominance.
Horses are a herd animal. Within the herd is a system of dominance, an alfa mare (leader) an alfa stallion (pusher/chaser) and the rest of the family taking beta roles (followers).
Humans are not that different.

By understanding these roles, your horses natural tendancy and your own tendancy we can gain an insight into how you and your horse behave in a given situation.
When asking a horse to do something we become the decision maker, the leader, this role requires us to develope alfa tendancies. When we get this wrong the horse will rightly question our leadership capabilities. This is their nature.

We as horse owners must first become confident in our ability to lead if we expect our horses to follow.
